Thank you to @blackfamilyhomeschool for this important reflection. It is worth reading each slide. Posted @withregram • @blackfamilyhomeschool How has your #blackhomeschooling journey been a journey of gratitude? #homeschooling #homeschool #blackfamilyhomeschool #gratitude
Guns do not belong in our neighbourhoods or in our schools. I don’t believe for a second that an officer with 26 years of experience couldn’t tell the difference between a gun and a taser, but let’s imagine for a second that she couldn’t. How could you possibly justify a person whose JOB it is to keep us safe carrying either, then? We must have the capacity to imagine better. Today I’m revisiting this excellent interview with Angela Davis I listened to last year: "[Defunding the police is] about shifting public funds to new services and new institutions — mental health counselors, who can respond to people who are in crisis without arms. It’s about shifting funding to education, to housing, to recreation. All of these things help to create security and safety. It’s about learning that safety, safeguarded by violence, is not really safety.
I love this prompt for kids and grownups! ✨ We just tried this out in my @outschool kids yoga class. 🧘 Keep your drawing at hand to check in with when you need to take yourself in your mind to your special spot. 🌳 It’s an accessible and fun activity for most humans. 🎨 I find older kids and adults often have a difficult tone just sketching and letting go of perfectionism (myself included!!) ✍️ Knowing that your drawing is just for you to explore, that it doesn’t need to look a certain way, and that it won’t be judged at all can sometimes help. ✏️ #SelfCarePromptsForKidsAndGrownups
Today I’m grateful for...... 🙏 My backyard is waking up to spring 🌸 My yoga students are owning their time, listening to their bodies, and taking their own variations without waiting for my permission 🌻 I got positive feedback from my Crisis Text Line volunteering coach 😌 Cooked with Mama a lot this week 🥘 Phone conversations with my amazing friends & partner each day @purrdychat @taclirva @gmismash @jasminedora 💕 What pockets of sunshine (literal or metaphorical) have you found this week?
One of the greatest gifts we can give new students is empowerment to slow down and be aware of their own ideas, their own strengths, what’s happening for them, and what they need. 🌻 One of my students recently shared (in a public review), “My favorite part was being able to use my imagination during the poses.” 💡 What is your favourite part of your mindfulness practice today?
Imagine This! Improv, Movement, and Theatre Games for Confidence 💪🏻
What do all these items have in common? They make pretty cool sounds 😊 What can you find in your house to shake, bop, or squish to make an interesting beat? 🎶 Tune into the next Sensory Fun class to make our own no-cook play doh 😊 DM for info ✨ #SensoryPlayIdeas
Brand new weekly class! Free first class if you DM me here 😊 Origami for Little Hands: Feed Your Creativity With Paper Folding and More! Kindergarteners learn the basics of the Japanese art of origami and use their creations to tell stories and play games. Each week, we learn to make a new 3-dimensional shape out of paper only, no cutting or gluing required. ✨
It’s been a minute since I’ve said hi! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m Madeleine (she/her). I teach ages 3 and up, primarily 5-9, on @Outschool and ages 6-8 in my brick-and-mortar primary school classroom. 👩🏻‍🏫 My favourite subjects are philosophy, yoga, and social-emotional learning. 🌞 I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching in Massachusetts, USA and my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (otherwise known as Auckland, New Zealand). 🧘 I am interested in getting counselling or social work training as well soon, as the social-emotional support aspect was the main reason I went into education in the first place. 💛 I’m happiest with my nose in a book, writing poetry, up a tree, or on my bicycle in the woods (sometimes a combo of a few of these). 🚴🏽 I also brew kombucha, knit, and have just started learning to crochet. 🧶 I am vegan because no one else’s body is mine to take. 🌱 Some volunteer projects I work on are mentoring new vegans, crisis counselling with @crisistextline , phone counselling with @outlineaotearoa , and cooking for food banks. 💞 Tell me about yourself in the comments or slide into my DMs! I reply to every single (not spam) message 💌
